What is Perfect?

What perfect means to us is that there are imperfections in everything. The imperfections are what make it unique. Perfect is different for everyone. It just depends what your viewpoint is. Sometimes perfect is associated with utopias. Utopias are also different for everyone. For some people, perfect is an island with a private dock or a feast. For others it is a run- down shack, with a couple of breadcrumbs. It depends on your viewpoint.

Utopian Motto, Seal, and Flag

Motto-Being Perfect Is Not Possible, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to be the best you can be.-This means that you can't be perfect, but you should try your best.
Seal-The heart represents love. The gender signs represent equality. The sun and moon represent light and peace. The music note represents creativity.
Flag- We picked these colors and symbols for a specific reason. Red stands for love, green stands for nature, and blue stands for the sky. The moon on the black triangle stands for a ray of light in the darkness around it.                                                      The Flag

Response To The Veldt

The theme "more is not always better" means that just because you have more stuff in your life, doesn't mean it is better. In The Veldt, the family moves into a home that does everything for them, and the parents feel like they aren't needed, the children are spoiled, and they love the house more than there parents.
The quote, "That sounds dreadful! Would I have to tie my own shoe instead of letting the shoe tier do it? And brush my own teeth and comb my hair and give myself a bath?" makes me think that the kids are spoiled, and will never know how to do things on their own. They have grown dependent on the house and they think ththey can't live without it.
Architecture and Growth

We are an island paradise. We have a warm temperature with cool breezes throughout the year. We are not isolated, we are connected to the mainland and we allow travel there often. We use sun, wind, and water power for energy sources. We have a gate and guards to protect us from people who want to harm the residents. We have many buildings and architectual elements on our islands.

Government

The president rules with the owner of the island as co-president. There are branches of government though, so there isn't just one main leader. The president will decide something and the government will vote to see if it will be carried through. If enough of the residents don't like it though, it doesn't matter what the government says, it will be vetoed. The president is chosen by the people. They will vote and the person with the most votes will become president.

                                             Rules
  •  Everyone has the right to write, say, and think, whatever they want.
  • Residents cannot have weapons on the island.
  • No one can reside in your home without the homeowner's permission.
  • Everyone will be given the right of a fair trial.
  • If you try to steal, you will be in solitude for a month.
There is a court. In a trial, if there is enough evidence, we will pick 10 random people from the residents to vote to see if you will be convicted of the crime. We do have police, but they will not be armed with any weapons. The police will maintain order without violence. We have solitude buildings, so if someone commits a crime, they go there. If there is a bad enough offense, they will be sent off the island. We do have government "helps" for medical and disability issues.
Community - Philosophy

 A.    In our Utopia, the families can be as big or as small as they want. They can worship any gods and have any beliefs that they want. We encourage people from different races to come and visit or stay in our utopia. There will be many different cultures on our island utopia. We willl try to teach everyone the same languages, so that they can talk to each other and not feel left out. Since every job pays the same, everyone will be on the same level according to wealth.
People in the world we live in now get separated into groups because of race, religion, language, culture, and wealth. In our utopia, we will try to keep this from happening. We have addressed all these problems and we have come up with good solutions.
Families can interact in their homes however they want. there is no schedul for where to be at certain times in the homes. Every house will have the same car that will be able to hold the entire family. You can go anywhere you want, but you must be back at a certain time. If you want to go on vacation for a week or more, you have to fill out a form and the officials will decide if you get to go. If you don't want to fill out a form, you can just wait until there is a break. Everyone will get the same education so no one is higher than another person. Once your job is picked out, you will receive special training for that job.
The community planner will decide one activity for the entire commmunity to do once a week to bond on a mutual level.

 B.    Community Planners develop long- and short-term plans to use land for the growth and revitalization of urban, suburban, and rural communities.
They help local officials make decisions concerning social, economic, and environmental problems.
They usually specialize in a single area, such as transportation, demography, housing, historic preservation, urban design, environmental and regulatory issues, or economic development.
They do various kinds of planning.
Community planners develop plans and programs for the use of land.

 C.    John Donne is saying that no man can be isolated because we all depend on each other. What I do affects someone else, and what another person does affects me. An example would be that during World War II, the United States tried to isolate itself from the rest of the world as Hitler and Germany were trying to dominate all of Europe. We didn't get involved until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, and we were almost too late because Hitler had gotten so powerful. As Donne said in his poem, we are all part of the same world, and everything we do affects everybody else.

The definition of street art is any art developed in public places. Utopian street art is just street art that represents utopia in some way. This represents our utopia becuase we welcome love, feelings, and individuality.
   Individuality

Our society encourages individuality. We let people pick their own clothes out, but we are the ones who put the clothes in the store. The clothes don't look exactly the same, but they are all on the same level. There is style, but we will make a new wardrobe according to the new styles. Residents can pick their own acessories. They can also decorate the things they own. The society chooses the safety rules. They also decide some of the other rules. Individuals can choose what they want to wear, what they want to eat, and what kind of pet they want, if they decide to get one. I would like to live this way, it gives you a lot of freedom, while still representing a utopia. Residents can feel free to be themselves. I think they will want to feel themselves.

Lily Island's estate includes 600 feet of water/beach frontage, tennis court, heated swimming pool and a private dock within a protected cove. Lily Island enjoys outstanding, uninterrupted views of the Caribbean Sea. Beaches, Road Town and the Beef Island International Airport are all within easy driving distance. Lily Island was built in 1989 and expanded in 2000 and 2003. Elegant and serene, the island is a welcoming retreat all year.

   Daily Life

Each morning, the people of the Lily Island Community will go to the jobs of their choice. After they finish their task, they are free to do whatever they want. They can go to the recreation center and play games, swim, and play sports. Everyone must be in their homes by 11:00. Their bedtimes are their own choice as long as it doesn't interfere with their jobs. Kids will go to school every day from 10 to 4.  All of the teachers will have trial runs and the kids will be able to vote to see if the teacher will stay. If they don't like the teacher, then he/she will be assigned a new job and a new teacher will be picked. The kids will have to explain why they don't like the teacher.  If anyone gets sick, they will go to the island hospital and be treated by the best doctors, according to their injury. The government will be a democracy, but the owners will always be co-presidents. Each resident will be given an I.D. card to check in and out of work and to get money. The card will have their picture on it. Everyone gets paid the same amount for each job. When children get to be 13, after school, they can start internships. They can even get paid a small amount for the time they work. If you do not go to work, you do not get paid. If you do not go to school, for every one day you skip that is one week of recreation taken. You may retire once you reach a certian age. If you want to keep working, you can as long you want. Meals are prepared in groups because a job choice is a cook. There is  television at the island. Each household will have 4 TVs. It has local TV and the president will decide which shows are appropriate for each age. Food is grown on the island, but we will put the food in the grocery store and there will be food that is not grown too. All residents are treated equally. To us, utopia means a perfect world, but by that, we mean a place with happiness and joy, not a world without feelings.
